Finding a reputable Roofer in Nottingham & Derby

Here in the UK, it’s probably safe to say that we’re not renowned for having the calmest and most reliable of weather. We’re an exposed island nation and our weather often reflects as much. During the summer the weather is often hit and miss, but it’s during the Autumn and the Winter seasons when we often find ourselves taking a real battering. For the last few years we’ve experienced extreme weather in some way or another that ultimately ended up costing us money. We’ve had extreme freezes which lasted for weeks and dumped several feet of snow and more recently we’ve experienced extreme storms which caused havoc. Heavy wind and heavy rain ended up costing insurance companies and homeowners hundreds of millions of pounds in one year alone, and if the past is anything to go by, the same could very well happen again this year. Take your homes for instance, often your roofs are one of the first parts of your home that take a real battering, which is why it’s so important to find a reliable and trustworthy roofer. To avoid being ripped off by cowboy builders and shoddy workmen, here are three tips to help you find a reliable and trustworthy roofer.

Examine the work that needs doing beforehand – Obviously you won’t be expected to inspect every single roof tile and spend hours upon hours up a ladder on the roof of your house but if at all possible, examine the work that needs to be done beforehand. The reason for this is that a tell-tale sign of whether a roofer is a “cowboy” or not will be whether or not he exaggerates the extend of the damage and the work that needs doing. If you take a quick look and notice two or three dislodged tiles, but a roofer gives you a quote for twenty odd, they may be ripping you off so try looking elsewhere.

Ask for recommendations – Another great way of finding a reliable roofer is to simply ask for recommendations from friends or family. As them if they have had work done to their roof, if they were happy with the price and the service, and whether or not they’ve had any problems since. Another great way of reaching out to hundreds of people at once is to post a message/question on various social media sites asking for recommendations of roofers in your area. If the same name/company keeps popping up then you may have found your man.

Ask for a written quotation – Another great tip for finding a reliable roofer is to request a written quotation up front, before they begin the work. If they’re hesitant or refuse this could be a sign that they may have been hoping to rip you off and bump up the price of the job before they finished. It’s a dirty tactic but it happens all too often unfortunately. If a roofer is happy to provide you with an upfront quotation however, then this is certainly a very good sign.
